Larry Kochard

LAWRENCE E. KOCHARD, CFA Chief Executive Officer/Chief Investment Officer

Lawrence Kochard is the Chief Executive Officer / Chief Investment Officer of UVIMCO. As Chief Executive Officer, Larry provides leadership for all aspects of UVIMCO’s operations and serves as UVIMCO’s primary representative to the University, related foundations and the public. As Chief Investment Officer, Larry is responsible for the investment management of UVIMCO’s Long Term Pool, overseeing the asset allocation, portfolio management, risk management and manager selection activities of the investment staff.

Prior to joining UVIMCO, Larry served as Chief Investment Officer at Georgetown University. From 2001 to 2004, he was Managing Director of Equity and Hedge Fund Investments for the Virginia Retirement System. From 1997 to 2000, he taught in the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia, first as an adjunct and later full time as an assistant professor.

Larry received his BA in Economics from the College of William & Mary, an MBA from the University of Rochester, and an MA and PhD in Economics from the University of Virginia. He is a CFA charter holder.

Kristina Alimard

KRISTINA M. ALIMARD, CFA Chief Operating Officer

Kristina Alimard is the Chief Operating Officer of UVIMCO, with responsibility for all noninvestment functions of the organization. Kristina oversees the infrastructure necessary to support the effective investment of UVIMCO’s Long Term Pool, and ensures the proper accounting and control of the funds entrusted to UVIMCO by the University and related foundations.  Kristina joined UVIMCO in April 2003.

Prior to attending Darden in 2001, Kristina spent two years as a senior financial analyst at GE Financial Assurance.  From 1992-1999, Kristina worked for the Baltimore, Maryland office of KPMG LLP.. In 1995, Kristina was promoted to the Global Financial Strategies group, a national practice of approximately 20 M&A specialists who performed business valuations for strategic merger, acquisition, divestiture, and reorganization decisions within the healthcare industry. Kristina’s primary areas of responsibility at UVIMCO include investment operations and accounting, investment performance reporting, corporate accounting and reporting, human resources, information technology, and office management.  Kristina is also responsible for many of UVIMCO’s compliance activities, tax reporting, and the preparation of Board meeting materials. She serves as the primary liaison to the University and foundation personnel, and manages the relationships with external service providers.

Kristina received a B.S. in Accounting from the University of Delaware and an M.B.A. from Darden, where she was the recipient of the William Michael Shermet Award and the Virginia Kincaid Charitable Trust Scholarship. Kristina earned a CPA license from the state of Maryland in 1992, and the CFA designation in 2007.

Robert Freer

ROB WALKER FREER, Managing Director

Rob is a Managing Director at UVIMCO and is responsible for private equity, venture capital, real estate, and resource investments. He is a member of UVIMCO’s Investment Committee and also works closely with UVIMCO’s General Counsel on issues related to fund management and documentation. Rob joined the University in the Investment Office in April 1981 as the Assistant Investment Officer.

Prior to joining the University, Rob was a practicing attorney in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He is a member of the Virginia, Florida and District of Columbia Bars and is a member of the Charlottesville/Albemarle Bar Association. Rob served three years in the U.S. Army on active duty as an Infantry Officer (Second Lieutenant and First Lieutenant) with tours at Fort Benning Georgia, Fort Carson, Colorado and in the Republic of Korea. He also served three years on active duty as a Captain in The Judge Advocate General’s Corps, stationed at The Judge Advocate General’s School in Charlottesville, Virginia. Additionally, he served twenty-three years in the U.S. Army Reserve with assignments at The Judge Advocate General’s School and at the Pentagon in the Office of Personnel, Plans, and Training, which is responsible for the career management of approximately 1,500 active duty JAG Officers. He concluded his Army Reserve career as a Colonel. Rob has served on the Board of Directors of various charitable organizations in Charlottesville and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of the University of Virginia Community Credit Union, having served in the past as Treasurer and Chairman of the Board. He also is Chairman of the Board of two wholly-owned subsidiaries of the Credit Union. He has served on the Executive Committee of the Parent’s Committee at the University of Virginia for the past five years.

Rob received his B.A. in Economics from the University of Maryland and a J.D. from the University of Miami School of Law. He also has taken courses at the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia and the Darden School of Business at the University of Virginia.

Sherri King

SHERRI KING, Managing Director

Sherri King is a Managing Director at UVIMCO and is responsible for investments focused on credit and marketable alternatives. Sherri also manages fixed income and risk management strategies for UVIMCO. She is a member of UVIMCO’s Investment Committee working closely with all the team members to assess risks of the portfolio and investments. Sherri joined UVIMCO in March 2012.

Prior to joining UVIMCO, Sherri spent 14 years in various fixed income roles on Wall Street. Sherri started her career at Credit Suisse where she worked in market risk management, fixed income structuring and high yield debt trading. Following Credit Suisse she was a Senior Managing Director at Bear Stearns running the corporate structuring group, Managing Director at JP Morgan running a fixed income solutions team and Managing Director at Stifel Nicolaus working in the middle market space. Sherri serves on the Board of Directors of New Heights Youth, Inc., a non-profit educational organization based in New York City.

Sherri holds a B.S. in Mathematics from Duke University and an M.B.A. in Finance from New York University’s Stern School of Business.

Ed Klees

EDWARD H. KLEES General Counsel

Ed is the General Counsel of UVIMCO. He is involved in many aspects of UVIMCO’s business, including fund management, compliance and operations, and counseling both management and the Board. Ed joined UVIMCO as its first General Counsel in November 2008. He brings more than twenty years of securities law and operations expertise to the organization.

Prior to joining UVIMCO, Ed was Associate General Counsel of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, a philanthropy based in Chevy Chase, MD. Before HHMI, Ed worked in New York for several leading law firms, including Paul Weiss Rifkind Wharton & Garrison and Shearman & Sterling.

Ed is a member of the American Bar Association’s Institutional Investor Committee and is a frequent speaker on institutional investment issues at the ABA and other legal and investment conferences. He also has been appointed as a Lecturer in Law at the University of Virginia School of Law. His publications include “How Safe Are Institutional Assets in a Custodial Bank’s Insolvency?” (2012) and “After the Economic Meltdown: Legal Issues for Endowments” (2010). He also has written Biomedical Consulting Agreements: A Guide for Academics, co-authored with Nobel Prize winner H. Robert Horvitz, to be published by the MIT Press in fall 2012.

Ed holds B.A. (Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa) and J.D. degrees from Columbia University.

SHARON C. ARGO Executive Assistant

Sharon provides executive assistance to Lawrence Kochard. She joined UVIMCO in April 2007. She received her A.A. in Business from the University of Phoenix.

MARY BARRICK Records Manager

Mary is responsible for records management. She joined UVIMCO in September 2012.

Prior to joining UVIMCO Mary was the director of development services for the Institute for Shipboard Education. Previously she was the assistant director of the member information group for Cambridge Associates LLC. She received her B.A. in Mathematics from the University of Virginia and her MBA from James Madison University.

MATTHEW BERNSTEIN IT Specialist

Matthew is responsible for providing technical support and implementing IT and software solutions. He joined UVIMCO in August 2012.

Prior to joining UVIMCO, Matthew worked for Northrop Grumman developing products for the marine industry in various capacities, but most recently as a Technical Lead and Engineering Program Manager. Matthew started his professional career as a public high school mathematics teacher. He holds a B.S. in Mathematics from Virginia Tech.

DIANA CLARK Investment Accountant

Diana joined UVIMCO in December 2007. She received her B.S. in Finance from Old Dominion University and graduated cum laude.

BRENDAN DAWSON Associate

Brendan joined UVIMCO in June 2009. He received his B.S. in Commerce with a concentration in Finance from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia.

DUBIE DUBENDORFER IT Manager

Dubie is responsible for Information Technology operations and strategy. He joined UVIMCO in September 2010.

Prior to joining UVIMCO, Dubie worked as the Technical Operations Manager for the Office of Undergraduate Admissions at the University of Virginia. Dubie received his Bachelor of Interdisciplinary Studies with Highest Distinction from the University of Virginia and his MS in the Management of IT from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia.

STEVEN EELKMAN ROODA Investment Analyst

Steven joined UVIMCO in January 2013. He received his B.S. in Commerce with a concentration in Finance from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia. Steven was also a member on the varsity tennis team for four years.

ALLISON GILLAM, CPA Senior Investment Accountant

Allison is responsible for investment and shareholder accounting and reporting. She joined UVIMCO in June 2012.

Prior to joining UVIMCO, Allison was a portfolio accountant at AEW Capital Management in Boston. Previously, she worked as an auditor at KPMG, primarily in Boston. During her time at KPMG, she completed a one year rotational program in KPMG’s Department of Professional Practice (national office) in New York City, assisting in the development of firm guidance on emerging technical accounting and audit issues. Allison graduated from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia with a BS in Commerce with Distinction and a MS in Accounting. She is a Certified Public Accountant, licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

DAVID HAAS Associate

David is responsible for all asset classes, including public and private equities, real assets, credit and hedge funds. He joined UVIMCO in June 2010.

Prior to joining UVIMCO, David was a member of the investment team at Florida Capital Partners, where he focused on due diligence, transaction execution, and portfolio monitoring. David earned his B.S. in Commerce with a concentration in Finance from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia, with Highest Honors.

LEAH HALL Investment Analyst

Leah joined UVIMCO in February 2012. Prior to joining UVIMCO, Leah was a Research Associate at Mangham Associates. She received her B.S. in Commerce with Distinction from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia, with concentrations in Finance and Accounting and a second major in Economics.

ANGELA HARTMAN Administrative Assistant

Angela provides administrative assistance to Kristina Alimard and Ed Klees. She joined UVIMCO in March 2011.

Prior to joining UVIMCO, Angela worked in Client Services for BNY Mellon Asset Servicing, headquartered in Wilmington, DE.

SHARON F. HERBERT Manager of Corporate Accounting and Human Resources

Sharon is responsible for operating company accounting and human resources. She joined UVIMCO in October 2004.

Prior to joining UVIMCO, Sharon worked as Shareholder Relations Administrator for nTelos Inc., and was Treasurer of Willis Investment Management Co. Sharon received her BA in Business Administration from Mary Baldwin College. She holds the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) and Compensation Management Specialist (CMS) designations.

MARTIN HOHOFF Investment Accountant

Martin joined UVIMCO in June 2011. He received his B.S. in Commerce with a concentration in Accounting from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia.

MIKE HUSSEINI Investment Analyst

Mike joined UVIMCO in June 2011. He received his B.S. in Commerce with a concentration in Finance from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia.

ELIZABETH R. LILES Administrative Assistant

Elizabeth provides administrative assistance to the public equity team. She joined UVIMCO in September 2012. Prior to joining UVIMCO her previous administrative experience includes working at CFA Institute (AIMR); UVA Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation; and Fork Union Military Academy. She received her B.S. degree from James Madison University.

JASON LOVE Manager of Investment Operations

Jason Love is the Manager of Investment Operations of UVIMCO, with responsibility for overseeing the operational due diligence function at UVIMCO. Jason joined UVIMCO in October 2012.

Prior to joining UVMICO, Jason spent the majority of his career as a private equity investor and investment banker. He was a Principal at Allied Capital Corporation in Washington DC, where he invested in private debt and equity securities, and also worked for Asgaard Capital and the Breckenridge Group, both boutique investment banks serving middle market companies. He has further worked in an operational capacity for Luxbuam Windows + Doors, a family owned manufacturer of custom wood windows and doors.

Jason’s primary responsibilities are to conduct interviews with investment managers, Chief Compliance Officers, Chief Operations Officers and other operational management and personnel, and to coordinate and review results with UVIMCO’s investments, operations, and legal specialists. In addition to performing operational due diligence, Jason is a key participant in providing operational support for all investment decisions and acting as a liaison with our Board and shareholders.

Jason received a B.S. in Commerce from the University of Virginia, McIntire School of Commerce and an M.B.A. from Duke University, The Fuqua School of Business.

SHANE MILLER Investment Analyst

Shane Miller joined UVIMCO in June 2011. He received a BA in economics and mathematics with a concentration in financial mathematics from the University of Virginia and graduated with high distinction.

CHELLIE V. MORRIS Administrative Assistant

Chellie provides administrative assistance to the private markets team. She joined UVIMCO in March 2002.

Prior to joining UVIMCO she was with the CFA Institute (AIMR), AMVEST Corporation, and the UVA Darden Business School.

LAURA ROLLER Associate

Laura joined UVIMCO in June 2009. She received her B.S. in Commerce with a concentration in Finance from the McIntire School of Commerce at the University of Virginia.

TINA B. SHIFFLETT Administrative Assistant

Tina is the front desk receptionist. She joined UVIMCO in August 2009.

LONG TRINH Performance Analyst

Long joined UVIMCO in January 2010. Prior to joining UVIMCO, Long worked as an Operation Analyst at Royal Bank of Scotland in Jersey City. He received his BBA from the University of Hawai’i, majoring in Finance, Management, and International Business.

PENG WANG Associate

Peng Wang is an Investment Associate at UVIMCO, with responsibility for portfolio risk management. Peng joined UVIMCO in November 2012.

Prior to joining UVIMCO, Peng was a quantitative analyst with Georgetown University since March 2010. He was a significant contributor to shaping and creating Georgetown's portfolio and developed asset allocation liquidity analysis models to help monitor and manage the liquidity risk of the endowment. He has extensive expertise in asset allocation and risk management with several publications in top tier journals.

Peng’s primary responsibilities are to monitor and evaluate investment strategies for the UVIMCO investment portfolio. He works directly with UVIMCO’s senior investment team on a wide variety of activities, including exposure management, risk analysis, liquidity management and asset allocation.

Peng obtained a master's degree in physics with a concentration in computer modeling and simulations from Georgetown University. Peng holds a Bachelor of Science degree in physics and economics from Peking University (Beijing, China). He is a CFA charter holder.

DAWN C. WILSON, CPA Manager of Investment Accounting and Reporting

Dawn manages investment and shareholder accounting, cash flows and other investment operations. She joined UVIMCO in January 2000.

Prior to joining UVIMCO, Dawn was an auditor with the Auditor of Public Accounts for the Commonwealth of Virginia. She holds a Certified Public Accountant license in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Dawn received her BS in Accounting from Old Dominion University.
